Navigational Information

Fairwater Head is situated in glorious open countryside, off the beaten track, but central to endless places of interest. The following directions will assist in locating this oasis of peace and tranquillity.

From the M5 Motorway:

Leave the M5 at Junction 25 (Taunton) and take the A358 Chard road. As you enter Chard, at the traffic lights continue straight on, signposted Axminster (staying on the A358). As you are nearing Axminster you will see a sign for A35 Dorchester. Follow this until it meets Axminster by-pass and continue forward a few hundred yards and you will see Hunters Lodge Pub on the right. Turn left opposite the pub onto the B6165 (Crewkerne) road. Three miles down you will see a sign for Hawkchurch and our Hotel sign.

If it is daylight you may like to take a shorter but more adventurous route. Having left Chard along the A358 and halfway to Axminster (at the village called Tytherleigh) you will see a sign for Hawkchurch. This is a scenic route along the country lanes, over the River Axe, following the Hawkchurch sings. When you reach the village drive past the church to the top of the hill and the hotel is to the right at the crossroad.

From the A303:

The A303 is a much improved road and you can either follow the road into Chard (then follow the directions above) or you can leave the A303 then you see the signs for Crewkerne. When you reach the centre of Crewkerne be sure to follow the Lyme Regis sign at the end of the main street (the B3165). This takes you through the villages of Clapton and Marshwood and a couple of miles past Marshwood the hotel and Hawkchurch signs are on your right. Take the right turn and head down the country lane and take the fist turning on your left. There is a sign for Axminster at the crossroad and the hotel is 150 yards along this road and right at the fork in the lane.

From the A35 Dorchester:

From Dorchester take the road to Honiton. At the new roundabout by Charmouth take the Axminster/Honiton turning. Halfway up the incline is a Hawkchurch sign. We are signposted from about 3 miles down.

From the A35 Honiton:

Approaching Honiton take the Axminster bypass and turn left at Hunters Lodge Pub, onto the B3165 Crewkerne Road. We are signposted from 3 miles down on the left.
